There was a system that allows you to use any object as a TV remote
British scientists have created a technology that allows you to control the TV using any means at hand..
The technology is called Matchpoint. Its essence is as follows: initially on the TV screen icons with functions to be configured are displayed. This can be a volume, or brightness control, or a program switch setting. After selecting the desired menu item, the user draws a circle in the air using any selected object. Anything can be an object — a pen, a cup, a calculator, glasses, etc. Thus, this object is “transformed” into a remote control.
Later, by moving the object, you can adjust the settings of the TV. For example, when you move an object to the right or left, you can change the volume. It is worth noting that for the correct operation of this type of console, it is necessary that the object is always within the view of the webcam TV.
The specifics of Matchpoint’s work distinguishes it from other similar systems, since it records not a specific object, namely movement process. As a result, almost any thing you have at hand can be used as a control element. The developers intend to present a novelty at the UIST conference, which will be held in Canada this year.
