Russian specialists have invented an apparatus that removes cancer tumors without surgery
Specialists from the Polytechnic University of St. Petersburg created a device capable of removing tumors without the use of surgery.
The principle of the device is based on the use of ultrasonic waves. A special technology allows not only to detect a tumor, but also to remove it, without leaving a single trace on the body. A diagnostic scanner detects a problem, and a sensor that radiates ultrasound gets rid of it. After completing the tests and obtaining relevant documents, it is expected that the device can be successfully used to remove tumors of the mammary glands, thyroid, kidneys and other organs.
The undoubted advantage of the novelty over the traditional methods used now lies in the absence of the need for a control MRI during and after the operation - the ultrasound machine simultaneously deals with examination and treatment.
The project manager and head of the laboratory, Alexander Berkovich, highly appreciates the chances of introducing the device into daily medical practice. The use of gentle techniques to get rid of tumors will avoid numerous complications associated with conventional surgical interventions. In addition, combining the functions of treatment and diagnostics in one device considerably reduces the cost of the total cost of the procedure.
The issue of creating and introducing new methods of treating oncological diseases has recently become particularly acute. The number of patients suffering from cancer is growing every year, and so far it is not possible to stop this negative dynamic. The authors of the new invention plan to begin joint work with the Novosibirsk plant on the creation of innovative devices in the very near future. It is expected that the first ultrasound devices will appear on the market in 2019.
