Enhanced precision maps entered the Russian army
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation provided the army with a highly accurate system of 3D maps, thanks to which the planning processes of the armed forces and the use of precision weapons will become more efficient.
Systems are called "Apsheronsk-2015" 23 copies already ready to work. In the very near future it is planned to install them in the already formed navigation information centers. The process of full supply of all districts will be completed by the end of next year.
When creating volumetric maps, information is used that comes from various sensors located on satellites, airplanes, ships and other military space technology.
The digital map allows officers to very accurately determine the route of movement, and 3D-models increase the efficiency of terrain assessment.
Systems have been successfully tested in 2013 during the exercise. The convenience of the Apsheronsk 2015 maps is the ability to obtain accurate and timely information about the area. This information is easy to interpret and transmit automatically to all links.
The Ministry of Defense does not intend to completely abandon traditional paper maps. Firstly, in many cases such cards are more convenient to use, and, secondly, in the event of hostilities, in addition to traditional weapons and equipment, they use various electronic warfare tools that will interfere with or completely suppress any electronics.
