South Korea plans to replace soldiers with robots
The disadvantage of any army, no matter how strong it is, is the human factor. The soldiers eventually lose their strength and endurance, they are easily vulnerable in battles. All this invariably entails a reduction in the combat capability of the units.
With robots in this regard, much easier. Yes, they can be completely destroyed, but human manifestations are alien to machines - fear, fatigue, insecurity. They are able to serve much longer and, more often, much more effectively.
Currently, many countries are trying to introduce cars into the ranks of the national armed forces. One of the advanced states in this question is South Korea.
In accordance with the statement of the South Korean Minister of Defense Son Yong-mu, already in 2024 the first mixed units will appear in the state, uniting robots and humans. In the case of successful testing of machines in the field, the share of robots in the armed forces will increase.
Such a decision was caused not only by the desire to achieve technical improvement of the army, but also by the difficult demographic situation in the country. Due to the sharp decline in the population in the country, the number of soldiers in the army also decreased. Robots will help solve the problem. Initially, it is planned to introduce reconnaissance vehicles capable of replacing up to 600 soldiers; in the future, autonomous combat vehicles will replace 3,000 military personnel.
South Korea is not the first state to use robots for military purposes. So the United States of America has long been using aircraft exclusively as scouts, and in the UK they are attempting to introduce artificial intelligence systems into the army.
