For the first time at the Olympic Games in Tokyo will use the facial recognition system
The Japanese manufacturer NEC announced a face recognition system developed specifically for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Never before have similar technologies been used during the Olympic events, the Olympics 2020 will be the first event where they plan to use this technique.
The system operates on the basis of the NeoFace engine, which serves as a base for voice, fingerprint and iris authentication.
However, during the Games they plan to use only photo recognition. In this way, it will be possible to check the accredited participants, this will make the event more secure and technically perfect.
The organizers of the Olympics are planning to hold a grand event in the country at a new level. If in previous years special Olympic parks were created for guests and participants of the games, where they could move freely, in 2020 the entire city will become a sports ground. In order to ensure security, each participant will need to go through the procedure of identification of individuals at each of the sites visited. The system of face recognition prevents the transfer of passes to third parties, which allows to avoid the penetration of the object of persons who have not received accreditation.
Recently, NEC representatives made a presentation of their security system, demonstrating how the authentication process will be carried out. For these purposes, a volleyball player more than 2 meters tall was invited, using his example, clearly showed that the technology is configured to recognize people of any height. Observers and journalists noted the high speed of data processing - after a participant passed the checkpoint, after a fraction of a second, a photo of him could be seen on the monitor.
