Found a new way to deal with gambling addiction

Finnish experts have come up with an unconventional way to deal with gambling addiction. They decided to use naloxone for this purpose - a spray that is used in the treatment of addiction to drugs.

The drug is an opioid-type receptor antagonist. It is these receptors that have a destructive effect on the psyche of a drug addict. Even in the case when the spray is not able to overcome the addiction, it can significantly improve the condition of the patient. Naloxone prevents the formation of the “pleasure hormone” dopamine. This neurotransmitter gives a feeling of unlimited satisfaction to which most drug addicts aspire.

Doctors decided to use the easiest way to deliver a substance into the body - through the nasopharynx. Spray should be used when there is a primary sign of thirst for gambling. The effectiveness of the technique was confirmed by the doctor of the National Institute of Health, H. Alo.

The experiment starts the other day. Its completion is scheduled for the end of this year. In the course of the experiments, a group of 130 volunteers will inject the drug naloxone each time there is a craving for gambling. For some participants, placebo will be used for the purity of the experiment. In comparison with tablets, the spray acts much faster, so the risk of making a rash action after taking the drug is reduced to zero.
