Russian engineers have created a passenger hydrofoil ship.

On October 20, 2017, a hydrofoil passenger ship was launched, called “Comet 120M”.

The event took place on the territory of the Vympel manufacturing plant, located in the city of Rybinsk. Experts refer the ship to a new generation of this kind of equipment. The authors of the project, which started 4 years ago, were the engineers of the Central Design Bureau for hydrofoil vessels. R. E. Alekseeva.

"Comet 120M" is designed to carry 120 passengers. It is expected that the vessel will move within the Black Sea.

The first transportation from Sevastopol to Yalta is planned for 2018. In the plans of developers to create at least five similar vehicles, and later to bring their number to 20.

The draft of the vessel provides the maximum level of comfort for passengers. In particular, the climate control operation is provided, the technology to reduce the level of pitching is also implemented.The latest communications and navigation systems provide the highest level of security.

For Vympel, the construction of such a vessel was an outstanding event. The fact is that until that time the company specialized exclusively in the creation of military equipment and special-purpose equipment. The creation of a civilian object is a fundamentally new stage in the development of the plant.

The name "Comet" is borrowed from the recent past. That was the name of the series of hydrofoil ships intended for passenger transportation, which were put into operation in 1962. The total number of such ships of the USSR was 86 pieces, 34 of them were intended for export.
