Artificial Intelligence will replace the psychiatrist
Specialists from the Research Department Ibm created an artificial intelligence system that can predict the presence of changes in the psyche.
Currently, only a psychiatrist is able to assess the mental health of a patient and make a diagnosis. This requires numerous conversations with the patient, analysis of behavioral characteristics in various situations. Such a process takes a long time and requires highly skilled physicians.
At the same time, the delay in making the correct diagnosis significantly reduces the patient's chances of recovery, leading to irreversible consequences in his life. Often, mentally ill people injure not only themselves, but also surrounding people.
The work of artificial intelligence is based on the findings obtained in the course of experiments conducted in 2015. Even then, the system was able to capture the differences between ordinary patients and thosewhose reactions subsequently led to the development of psychosis. Among speech features of patients, there were scant speech turns, leap from one thought to another. The assessment was based on a monologue, during which the subject spoke about himself.
A new study 2 years later covered a more capacious group of patients. This time they were asked to retell the story read the day before. The obtained results were combined with the results of the experiment in 2015, as a result of which an artificial intelligence system emerged.
The accuracy of the technique is 80-85%, this is a sufficient indicator in order to use it as an auxiliary method of diagnosis. According to the authors, artificial intelligence will not only facilitate the work of doctors, but also reduce the presence of an element of subjectivity in assessing the patient's condition.
