Innovative cover model that protects your smartphone from falling
A student of engineering from Germany, Philip Frenzel, created an unusual model of a case for a smartphone. The device not only protects the device from insignificant external influences, but also transforms into a special airbag when the gadget falls from a height.
The author worked on the invention for several years and only recently created the first prototype. Unusual device received the main prize of the German Mechatronics Society. The authoritative jury from the many student projects submitted for consideration, singled out this one.
In order for the case to open not arbitrarily, but only in the case of a potential threat to the integrity of the device, special sensors are attached to it. Sensors determine the onset of the moment when the phone is in a free fall, and give a signal to the mechanism that causes the transformation of the body of the product.Initially, the student intended to come up with a soft "airbag", but after the experiments, he gave preference to the springy version.
Insurance works through special "petals". A total of eight - two in each corner of the smartphone. As a result, the phone falls not on the floor, but on the so-called springy pillow. After a fall, the host machine folds the petals to their original state. At the moment there is a risk of involuntary actuation of the insurance, for example, in the user's pocket. The moment can be unpleasant, and the author is working to improve the model, the result of which will be the absence of such risks.
At the moment, a patent application for development has already been filed. The author intends to collect money for production using the popular crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.
