What to do if a washing machine knocks while spinning
Sooner or later, home appliances begin to bring problems. Often before the breakdown appear its prerequisites. For example, if you began to notice that a washing machine is knocking during spinning, then you should think about diagnostics and repair. To delay in this case is not recommended, otherwise the cost of the restoration work will be much higher.

What is the cause of knocking
There may be many reasons for the appearance of extraneous sounds during washing and spinning, and not always a knock indicates a malfunction of household appliances. Consider the main reasons because of which there is a strange sound when working washing machines:
- uneven distribution of things in the drum;
- improper installation of the washing machine;
- broken spring;
- shock absorber failure;
- counterweight problem
All problems related to breakdowns require the sending of equipment to a service center.
Incorrect installation
When installed improperly, knocking arises due to the impact of the drum on the walls of the machine. This can lead to more serious damage, which then requires the intervention of specialists. Determining the installation flaws is quite simple: when spinning at high speeds, the machine can not only knock, but also swing strongly, bounce. Make sure you choose a flat surface and calibrate the installation level. Washing in a properly installed washing machine will be much softer and without a strong buildup.
Unevenly distributed linen
This problem is typical for old models. Modern devices practically do not rattle, of course, if they are in order and correctly installed. Good alignment is facilitated by the presence of electronics, which makes it possible to distribute things more evenly and prevent imbalance in the drum. Older devices cannot estimate how well the drum is centered, and whether there is any crumpled linen in it. Spin occurs in any case, and then the drum may knock on the walls or other elements of the washing machine.
Spring breakage
When the spring breaks, the drum may lean in one direction. However, it can also look exactly like if a shock absorber breaks. To accurately identify the causes you need to disassemble the machine. This is done at a service center, and if there is a defective spring, it is replaced. If you ignore the problem, then when washing the drum will poorly center clothes and constantly swinging.
When the springs are working, they are subjected to heavy loads, therefore, the main reason for their breakdown is long-term and intensive operation.
Shock absorber failure
A broken shock absorber has very similar symptoms with a broken spring:
- the drum “sags” to one side;
- the washing machine cannot center the laundry correctly;
- there is a permanent imbalance.
In addition to the shock absorber can break mount, or simply loosen the mounting bolt. Determine why a strange sound occurs only after disassembly. It is recommended to first diagnose by calling the wizard. After identifying a fault shock absorbers are replaced by new ones.
Counterweight
By itself, the tank is quite light and for its weighting used counterweights in its upper and lower parts.With this design reduces the risk of buildup during washing. However, over time, the counterweight can bring you problems: loosen up and knock hard during the spin cycle. This problem is fixed quite easily:
- the machine must be disassembled;
- determine which of the two counterweights loosened up;
- tighten fastening.
If the counterweight was not tightened in time, then it may fly off or break. At the same time, the washing machine starts knocking when spinning: at high speeds the drum starts to touch the walls.
Repairing such equipment costs as quickly as possible, until the defective drum breaks all the insides of household appliances.
Other problems
In addition to these situations, there are others because of which the washing machine knocks. If you haven't checked your pockets before washing, then a different small change may well get into the internal space of the device and rattle during operation. The problem is easily solved:
- remove the front or rear panel;
- unscrew the ten;
- we get large garbage;
- we collect everything in the reverse order.
Another cause of harsh spinning sounds are worn bearings. With such a fault from the washing machine heard the creak. In this case, the bearings must be replaced with new ones. If the washing machine creaks, but there is no knocking, you can try to lubricate all the bearings.
If you are knocking the drum of a washing machine while spinning, it is better to take care of repairs as soon as possible, or at least avoid working at high speeds, then the machine will last much longer.
