In Japan, created a plastic car
Japanese designers have created a plastic car that has a safety margin sufficient for intensive use.
According to news agencies, the new car consists of plastic by 90%, which is a record figure at the moment. Most likely, the metal remained the engine of the machine or one of its parts. However, accurate information on the design of the model from the manufacturer has not yet been received.
Use polymers in the construction of vehicles have been trying for more than a dozen years. The first patent was received by Henry Ford in the 40s of the 20th century, but the matter did not reach the mass production of his invention. The first production version of the plastic car was released in 1953, it was a Chevrolet Corvette. Fiberglass used for the manufacture of the body, and the frame remained metal. The most famous representative of the plastic automotive industry has become a car “Trabant” - a subcompact brainchild of manufacturers of the GDR. The model is still the most massive machine in its class, about 3 million units were released from the conveyor.
Plastic is a rather fragile material. In order to achieve the required indicators of strength and elasticity, Japanese manufacturers used a combination of several options for raw materials with different physical properties.
The new development was made possible by the program of the Government of Japan, which supports innovative technical solutions. The project was attended by representatives of the University in Tokyo, as well as automakers.
