The Japanese have created robots that will fight the consequences of the accident at the "Fukushima"
Specialists of the Japanese company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and the Research Institute announced the creation of a robot capable of working in places subjected to dangerous accidents and catastrophes.
In particular, such a robot will be trained in the implementation of measures for the removal of fuel rods at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant. The initiative to introduce such an approach to cleaning potentially hazardous facilities belongs to Tokyo Electric Power, the owner of the infamous nuclear power plant.
In 2011, as a result of a strong earthquake, an accident occurred at the station. As a result, a huge proportion of radiation waste was released into the surrounding atmosphere. The catastrophe led to a record loss of THERSO, which in 2011 alone amounted to more than 15 billion dollars. The cost of eliminating all emergency power units is estimated by experts at $ 12 billion. The process may take decades.
The work of new robots on objects will begin in 2021. They will be a long vehicles weighing more than 3 tons. Control of giant machines will be carried out remotely. At the end of each unit is a system sucking the molten material. The speed of the robot will not exceed 5 meters per second. This will allow you to collect all hazardous materials as efficiently as possible. Electronic components of the design are completely resistant to increased radiation background.
Difficulties with the start of the planned work are associated with the need to accurately determine the location of hazardous waste. To do this, the sites are already running search engines. It is not yet known whether it will be possible to draw up an exact map for work precisely by 2021. If necessary, the start will be postponed.
