Specialists from the High Magnetic Field Laboratory announced the creation of the most powerful magnet in the world.
The force of induction of the novelty is equal to 32 Tesla, which is 1/3 part higher than in the previous most powerful invention. If you compare such a magnet with a refrigerator, then its strength is 3000 times greater.
Laboratory Director Greg Bobinger notes the revolutionary nature of the development. The created magnet allows you to run many scientific processes that until now were in limbo. For example, it will be possible to increase the power of neutron scatterers and X-rays.
The design is made from superconductors of low and high temperatures and received the name 32T. The real energy consumption of such a device is several times higher than the required parameters for such magnets. Moreover, if the magnetic field has an induction higher than 25 Tesla, the low-temperature superconductor will not work.With high-temperature analogues, the situation is much simpler - they function perfectly in a wide range of temperatures and when interacting with a powerful magnetic field.
The new magnet works on a standard low-temperature conductor and a high-temperature YBCO consisting of barium, copper, yttrium and oxygen. Its critically allowable temperature is minus 180 centigrade. Next year the new product will be available to scientists who will use it to make the latest discoveries in various scientific fields.
