In the near future there will be a large passenger electric aircraft
Airbus, Rolls-Royce and Siemens announced the start of work on a project to create an electric aircraft. This project was named E-Fan X. The first test tests of the device are scheduled for 2022.
Airbus specialists intend to release a passenger vehicle, the design of which assumes the presence of one “experienced” sample of a 2 MW electric motor. Naturally, this will not be the only engine of the aircraft - there are 4 more turbofan jet engines in the apparatus. If the first tests are completed successfully, the engineers will complete the plane with another electric motor.
Duties and functionality of the creators of the novelty are clearly delineated. Ross-Royce is responsible for the motor model itself; Siemens is responsible for the development of electronic control, wiring and inverter; issues of integration, architecture and development of the control system and power plant, other organizational issues - in charge of Airbus.
According to the creators, the goal of the project is to develop a model of a regional aircraft that is notable for its increased economy and the possibility of using various control systems.
Along with the E-Fan X project, aviation design companies from all over the world are actively involved in the development and implementation of new aircraft options. In particular, NASA presented an electric aircraft a year ago, whose screws operate on 14 electric motors.
