We choose a video camera for the car
A video camera for a car performs many useful tasks, and the most important is to ensure safety and convenience when parking a car. No less useful is the function of fixing the video, because in the modern world it is very difficult to prove something without visual facts. Cameras are rear and front view, and there are also remote models for connecting to the recorder. Each species is described in more detail below.

What are the rear view camera
The rear view camera allows the driver to see what is happening in the “blind zones”. In addition to the camera itself, the kit also includes a monitor, as well as a set of cables and a controller. Installation of such equipment is expensive, but it justifies itself. In this case, the method of location of the camera on the car may be different. Ideal location provides the most effective overview, while the device should not be too conspicuous. On this basis, the following camera designs are distinguished.
Established
Its location is lighting rooms or a special connector for the cameraif it is provided by the manufacturer. In the first case, it not only performs the function of shooting, but also highlights the numbers. The advantage of this model is the ease of installation, invisibility, and the lack of need to open the casing to hide the wires. The downside is the high cost, and not every car has such devices.
Mortise
To install it in the rear bumper A special hole is drilled where the device is installed using special latches or a clamp. Plus - stealth, minus - the need to make a hole in the car.
Universal
The device has special bracketwhich can be fixed on any surface.This can be done using double-sided tape (very unreliable) or tighten the screws. Dignity - the price and ease of installation. The downside is the need to make holes in the car, and it is also very noticeable, which may be the reason for its theft. It is dangerous to leave such a camera at night if the car is on the street.
Framed room
This camera can be installed almost in any frame under the car numberwhile the device has a flat size, so as not to stand out very much, and has a tilt function for setting the optimal view. Such a camera is very easy to install, it is hardly noticeable, but it is also very easy to steal it.
Mounted on the rear window
This model is attached directly to the glass behind. Plus - ease of attachment. Minus - a bad review, because the device does not see what is in the immediate vicinity of the bumper and rather serves to record what is happening behind the car.
Rear view camera connection
Any rear view camera should display a picture on some screen. There are three types of screens - a regular computer in the car, a separate monitor, or the connection of a video camera to a DVR. In order to connect the auto-camcorder to a regular computer, the latter must have a free video input. The video camera is connected to the DVR in the same way.
Some camera models are supplied immediately. with native monitorwhich can be mounted on a car to a rear-view mirror (most often instead of it) or simply installed separately.
Between themselves, the camera is connected to the monitor either by radio or by wires. In the first case, the user does not need to stretch the wires and hide them, but sometimes with strong interference, the connection may be lost. Wireless connection made using the FM modulator, most often in this way display the image on a monitor or navigator. If you use a smartphone or tablet as a screen, you can configure the connection over Wi-Fi.
Front View Cameras
Many drivers believe that the front-view camera is a luxury, and there is no particular need for them.However, sometimes there are situations that, due to the limited space, it is difficult to see the curb or obstacle on the ground. For such situations, created front-view cameras. There are several ways to install such models:
- in the license plate;
- grille or car emblem;
- mortise;
- universal.
There are no significant differences between the installation of the front and rear cameras. Connection is made either to the standard screen or to the monitor from the kit (purchased separately), and it is also possible to output the image to the DVR or navigator. Connection methods are similar - wire or radio.
Video camera for the recorder
In recent years, the market of accessories for cars is constantly expanding. A few years ago, DVRs caused a stir, and today a more popular solution is not just a recorder, but a device with remote camera.
The need for an additional camera is quite obvious - it allows you to capture an image from behind or from the side, provides an opportunity to increase the viewing angle when shooting in front if the standard camera has a small viewing angle. In addition, it may be necessary to shoot the cabin bus or taxi.
Exists Two options for the position of the second chamber: it can be installed in the main unit, but simply directed in the other direction, or it is completely portable, and its location depends solely on the needs of the driver. The second option is more convenient, but you have to lay wires or connect in another way (wireless). The most common option is connection via AV-IN connector.
Important features to choose from
Many car owners often do not think about what should be a car video camera, and the main criterion for selection is the price. This is not a very correct approach, since there are several important points that distinguish one model from another.
- Screen resolution. Any rear view camera provides an overview first — it makes parking or turning easier. Based on this, it is obvious that you need to watch the video from the rear recorder online, which means that there is no sense in choosing the image resolution greater than 720 * 576 pixels. The reason is that many cameras come bundled or are displayed on a screen no larger than 7 inches, and most often even smaller.Thus, a larger image size will simply not be relevant for a small display. But if we are talking about shooting video for its further viewing on a large monitor, it is better to choose models from 720p and higher.
- Display size. Above it was said that most of the displays for review are 4 - 7 inches. This is the best option that allows you to consider what is happening on the screen and does not take up much space.
- Matrix. Currently, models with CMOS-type matrices are more popular, they process the signal from each pixel and output it immediately to the screen. More recently, the main competitor of such matrices were CCD sensors, their advantage in a better picture, but the image is displayed with a delay. CMOS matrix, produced today, are not inferior to CCD and are cheaper.
- Matrix resolution. Most people today believe that a large number of pixels is a plus. In fact, 0.3 megapixels are enough for surveillance cameras in a car. This is due to the standard video transmission - NTSC or PAL. More simply will not be understood by the device. Due to this standard, it was possible to achieve a uniform connection method and its simplicity.
- Viewing angle. Here it is necessary to proceed from the principle - the more the better. The best option is 170 degrees. However, the larger the angle, the worse the picture. This does not mean that with an angle of 170 degrees nothing can be considered, but cheap models often give a poor-quality image.
- Security class. Due to the fact that the camera for the car is portable, it must be protected from moisture and dust. There are three standards of protection - IP66,67,68. The last option is the best and reliable. It is equally important that the device has a wide range of operating temperatures and withstand both minus and high plus. The best option is from - 30 to +75.
- Statistical markup support. This function displays markup on the image, which allows you to estimate the distance to the object. Not all cameras have such a function, but its presence makes life much easier. If necessary, markup can be disabled.
- Backlight. The camera with IR illumination is not quite relevant for a car, as the headlights of a car give much more light. However, the illuminance is calculated in lux, and the minimum value can be 0.01 lux. For a good camera, it should not be less than 0.1 lux.
For rearview cameras, the mirror image function is very useful. It translates the image in such a way that it is no different from what the driver sees in the mirror. This feature can be disabled if not needed.
