Repair infrared heater on their own
Infrared heaters gained immense popularity among the population due to their efficiency. But what if the device breaks down? Consider how you can repair the infrared heater yourself.
Device and principle of operation
Regardless of the manufacturer and model, IR heater consists of the following main parts:
- metal case, covered with a layer of heat-resistant enamel;
- heating element (TENA);
- an emitting plate made of aluminum and covered with a layer of thermal insulation;
- fasteners (if the chosen model is intended for fastening to the wall or ceiling).
The principle of operation is as follows: electrical energy is converted into heat rays, which heat all objects encountered in the path of infrared radiation.And the heated objects are then already sharing heat with the airspace (for more details, see the articleprinciple of operation of the heater with infrared radiation).
A room heated by an infrared heater can retain heat for a long time, since infrared rays affect the human body and nearby objects, and not the air itself.
Possible causes of failure
Before proceeding with the inspection and repair of the heater, do not forget to disconnect it from the power supply by pulling the plug out of the network. To understand how to carry out repairs, the first thing to do is to find out the cause of the breakdown.
If the IR heater suddenly ceased to function, and the lamp does not light up on the power indicator, then you must first check voltage in the outlet. It is possible that due to the voltage drop, the automatic circuit breaker was activated at the entrance of the wiring to the house, thereby turning off the electric power. Contact at the outlet of the device to the outlet could also be broken, or the outlet itself is faulty. It also happens that the heater is simply overheated, and disconnection is the work of its protection systems.
If all checks did not lead to the desired result,and the infrared heater still does not work, then you need to take up the repair.
Repair work
Repair should begin with an external inspection of the infrared heater to identify visible faults. First of all, inspect the power plug, it should not be damaged and cracked. The pins of the plug of a serviceable device do not have blackening and soot, they are firmly fixed in the housing and do not hang out. The conductive cord must also not be damaged. Particular attention should be paid to the area where the wire comes out of the plug body - here it is often frayed.
It is also necessary to produce a visual inspection of the heater body (through the grid) and make sure that there are no burnt or broken wires, and ensure the integrity of the heating element.
The most common breakdown of infrared heaters is the failure of the heating element and thermostat. Malfunctions are eliminated by replacing burnt parts.In order to choose the right part, you must remove it, rewrite the number and order it online, or contact the repair service.
Burnt out lamp (in most cases it looks like a tube, length is 30 cm, diameter is 10 mm) of the heating element can be replaced independently. Replacement work begins with the device being disconnected from the mains. Then, on the part of the heater where the temperature regulator is located, the side panel is removed, behind which there is a power supply connector to the lamp. Turn it off, hang up. Lamps among themselves differ only in power and size, they feed in a standard manner - from 220 V. Therefore, difficulties with the selection should arise. Assembly after lamp replacement is carried out in reverse order.
In the event that the thermostat has blown, the simplest solution is to closure, adjustment will be carried out through a 2 kW triac regulator. This will save time on finding and buying parts. If there is a wire break, it is necessary to avoid soldering them: under the influence of high temperature, the solder may melt.It is much more efficient and safer to use a screw connection wires.
