Ways to create a freezer yourself

How is a freezer done with your own hands - this is a pressing issue, especially during the warm season. Often the size of a stationary freezer does not allow to contain all the necessary products that quickly deteriorate, and the purchase of ready-made equipment is expensive. And the larger the required volume, the higher the price of equipment. Independent manufacture of the freezer allows you to save money, does not require special skills and tools. But here power consumption level will depend on the option you choose to create the freezer.

Device freezing equipment

Before considering the various options for creating a freezing installation and proceeding to their implementation, it is necessary to become familiar with the principle of operation of the equipment, its device. This will allow a sensible approach to solving the problem, and in the future to independently upgrade (improve) the created unit.

The cooling unit consists of the following main parts:

• a compressor (providing movement through refrigerant pipes);
• the evaporator (here the coolant evaporates, turning into steam);
• refrigerating chamber;
• thermostat (maintains a given level of temperature inside the equipment, periodically turning the compressor on and off);
• a condenser (in the heat exchanger, steam is converted back to a liquid state);
• tube.

Modern units also contain automatic control and regulation devices, filters, dryers.

Operating principle

All of the listed structural elements, except for the refrigerating chamber, are interconnected by tubes into a closed system. A substance capable of boiling at minus temperatures (for example, freon, ammonia) circulates through it. A big role in the whole process belongs refrigerant pressure inside the tubes: the lower it is, the lower the boiling temperature. When the refrigerant boils in the evaporator, cooling occurs inside the refrigerating chamber. Favorable parameters of the circulating fluid are created by the compressor.

The vapor from the evaporator enters the condenser, where it is cooled by air, turning back into liquid. For high-power installations, fans are used to forcibly lower the temperature of the radiator.

The whole process takes place under the control of a thermostatic valve.

It turns out that the refrigeration system uses the property of refrigerants to change the self-boiling point when the pressure changes. The transformation of the circulating fluid into steam and back, respectively, when applying or taking heat - this is the principle of functioning of the freezing plant.

Modern automation systems carry out the entire process without human intervention. To achieve this level of regulation (control) is possible in a homemade installation. To do this, it must be assembled using simple control systems.

Options for creating a freezing installation

There are various options on how to make the freezer yourself. They differ from each other in financial costs and dimensions of the created installations. To implement projects will require the use of different materials and tools. Depending on the chosen method of creating a freezing unit, the work takes unequal terms.

You can create a freezer with your own hands:

• from the old fridge;
• from an empty container, lari, room;
• from the basement cellar.

The first two methods will require the use of ready-made cooling systems. The latter option is very labor intensive. You can also make the unit of the finished (sold) sandwich panels. But this option for the price is not much different from commercially available freezers.

From the old refrigeration unit

The easiest, most affordable way is to create a freezing apparatus from the refrigerator. The general scheme of the transformation is as follows:

• disassemble the freezer compartment;
• dismantle and deploy the evaporator;
• fix it on the back wall with bolts;
• set the sensor back;
• check the performance.

All models are dealt with differently. If the technique before reworking was workable, then when converting it is necessary to handle the tubes very carefully, avoiding kinks. But better release refrigerant, and after reworking the system is again soldered and filled with it. This complicates the process and requires special equipment.

The location of the sensor inside the machine will need to be specially selected to achieve the desired temperature mode of operation.

Non-working refrigerator requires a preliminary search for the cause of failure. It may happen that its repair and further rework does not make sense. The repaired model is transformed according to the above scheme. It should be borne in mind that home-made designs based on the old refrigerator will consume more electricity than store counterparts - they have less efficiency.

From vacant premises

The existing empty space can be converted into a freezer compartment. All actions are performed in the following sequence:

• create a crate of wooden bars around the perimeter of the room, exposing the guides on the level;
• settling reflector film;
• the formed cells are filled with insulation (its thickness is about 10 cm, depending on the material);
• joints sealed with tape in aluminum foil;
• sheathe the room with metal sheets (galvanized);
• all available seams are sealed with sealant;
• mount racks;
• install a ready-made monoblock or split-system, put up sensors, regulate automation;
• put the warmed door so that when closing there were no gaps;
• check the performance.

Similarly, you can create a freezing installation. from boxes of various sizes (consisting of different materials), boxes, containers. The scheme of work is as follows:

• the frame is mounted (if it is not there), a heat insulator;
• the chest is sheathed from the inside, the seams and holes are sealed with a sealant;
• shelves are made of necessity;
• installed cooling unit, sensors, doors;
• the system is adjusted to the desired operating mode.

Depending on the size of the box, you can use the cooling equipment from the old refrigerator, and for ease of movement - fasten the wheels at the bottom.

In the cellar (basement) it is enough to complete the installation of slots, seal the door and install a split system.Only need to bring to the surface, equip there external unit.

Alternative ways to maintain low temperatures

A small portable freezer unit that cools down to -10 degrees can be assembled using Peltier elements. On these plates (powered by constant U = 12 V and I = 6 A), one side produces heat, the other - cold. Create an aggregate like this:

• they take a small (about 30 to 60 cm) foam box (it can be plastic, wooden, cardboard, but its walls will need to be insulated);
• cut a hole in it (square) for the fan and elements;
• connect the output to the battery or connected batteries, or to a stationary power supply.

From the cellar You can make a glacier. To do this, inside its walls and on the bottom mount a closed system of pipes filled with a special liquid (for example, kerosene). This design accumulates cold in winter, maintaining low temperatures throughout the summer. But the option has a significant cost.

The freezer, created by yourself, will allow for a long time to store meat and fish products, dairy products.It will be possible to harvest fruit in the summer, and in the winter to make compotes from them or to use fresh immediately after thawing.

The volume of storage created depends on both the needs and financial possibilities of the available free space. The attainable mark of negative temperatures depends on the power of the cooling unit. The minimum cost of electricity will be when creating a freezer in the basement or cellar, because there the temperature is in the range from +1 to +10 degrees. And the most affordable, cheap way is to remake the old refrigerator in the freezer.
