How to check the ink level in the printer cartridge
An active user of a printing device may have a reasonable question: how do you know how much ink is left in the printer? This actual information will help prevent unpleasant moments when the necessary document becomes simply impossible to print. It is possible to suspect "wrong" at print quality deterioration. But it is better to be able to monitor the level of ink (toner) in the device.

How to determine the amount of paint
To date, there are several methods that help to understand the amount of ink in the printer:
- using special software;
- printing a special page;
- information on the display of the device;
- visual comparison.
We use software
For this, several popular options are used.
- In the first case, you must go to "Control Panel"And through" All Programs "find" Devices and Printers. " A pop-up window will show all devices connected to the computer (laptop). It is required to select the current for the user and through the tab “Service” (and, for some brands, “Print Setup”) view the printer status and the estimated ink level.
- The icon with the printer can be installed and on the desktop - it is usually located near the time button. Through the sequential algorithm "Settings" - "Functions" - "Information about the ink level" you can reach the desired result.
- When working in the local network You can check from your PC as well as from the main one. To do this, simply launch the corresponding application, in which you will find the ink level assessment tab.
We print the test page
There are several ways to print such a page (it is also called diagnostic):
- running the appropriate command from the "Settings";
- by pressing the keys on the panel of the printer itself.
In the first variant, it is necessary to choose such phased teams.
- Via "All Programs" go to "Devices and Printers", select the desired user, then go through the tabs "Management" - "Settings" - "Tools".
- Select the optimal team, which will show the status of the ink.
As for the second point, it is worth explaining in more detail - several options for further actions are possible. They will help you to understand whether there is little ink, or the case in another “culprit” of a bad print:
- nozzle check (when stripes or fuzzy areas appear on the last printed version);
- printhead check (with a general reduction in print quality);
- Calibration of the printhead itself (in case of printing strips).
The diagnostic page can also be printed using the appropriate key combination on the device panel. Different brands have different brands, but the principle of operation is the same.
Printing info pages will also help to check toner status. laser devices (where it is placed in a completely opaque cartridge). What to do?
- Press the "Cancel" button (or "Print screen" or WPS) and hold it for 5-7 seconds.
- There will be a printout of the report, in which there will be a Toner Remaining field (“Toner residue”) with all the information we need.
Display to help
Many modern printers have a special display display, which helps to understand that the paint is almost over.. The closer such a state is, the more actively the device starts blinking. And in the latest models of printers, a small monitor is built in at all, on which this information is already presented in a clear multimedia format.
The user must take into account: with active printing consumables run out very quickly. To avoid an unpleasant surprise in the form of a complete stop of the process, the display indication signals cannot be ignored.
Good old inspection
Despite the "antiquity" of visual research, it remains a rather popular method, especially when it comes to inkjet printer with SPNCHwhere the paints are poured into translucent jars. In this case, it is enough to look and determine “by eye” the level of the remaining ink.
In a conventional “jet chip”, it is enough to gently open the front cover, and the carriage with cartridges will be directly in front of the user. We take out the cartridge - it turns out to be opaque. We weigh it along with the new one and see how different the results are.
How to check the ink levels in various brands of inkjet printing technology
Today, for the convenience of users, many manufacturers provide special software with the device sold. The task of such drivers is just monitoring the status of the paint.
Immediately it is necessary to warn that many of these programs will not work with foreign (non-original) inks.
This is how it happens in practice.
- Canon Brand suggests using the simple and intuitive Status Monitor program (it comes on the driver disk). To start using, you should install it and activate the launch. After that, go to the task manager and find the appropriate icon. Now, with a double click, it will be enough to open the program to have an idea of how much ink now contains the cartridge.
- Similarly, this program will interact with Epson brand. However, most printers of this brand have displays that greatly simplify the process. Simply press the Setup button and select Ink Levels so that the screen displays the information about the ink level in the printer at the moment.
- In the case of the MFP and HP printers You can also use special software. It is installed together with the printer and is “registered” in the list of all programs. It remains to click the tab with the approximate ink level to understand the situation.
Progress does not stand still - it is quite possible that universal smartphone appswhich can be used to check if the ink cartridge has run out. Of course, this applies only to those devices that are able to receive files for printing wirelessly. With any variant of technology, all data provided by the programs are indicative only. It is better not to bring the situation in the printer to the complete cessation of printing and in time to solve a potential problem.
